Chapman Grove Wines

Chapman Grove burst onto the Margaret River winemaking scene with James Halliday naming it one of Australia's top ten new wineries in 2009. From its ultra-premium Atticus range to the value-driven Dreaming Dog label, award-winning winemaker Bruce Dukes is delivering wines of genuine class at a range of prices.

Fruit is sourced from the 33ha Chapman Grove vineyard, located on a south-facing slope in the southern part of the gorgeous Margaret River region of West Australia, before being sent to a state-of-the-art winery in nearby Carbunup.Chapman Grove Logo

We tend to get really elegant fruit flavours, softer tannins and a lot of natural acidity due to the south-facing slopes, and the fact we get very cold nights and longer ripening times on the vine, says Chapman Grove owner Ron Fraser, who moved to WA in 1999 after running successful wine retail businesses in Victoria.

Ron unveiled his first vintage in 2005, after realising he"d be better off producing his own wines from the high-quality fruit from Chardonnay, Sauv Blanc and Semillion through to Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz  that he had been selling off to local wineries. He named the super-premium range Atticus after his wife Trish pointed out that he shared his philosophy on life with the crusading lawyer Atticus Finch from 'To Kill a Mockingbird' - just because things have always been done a certain way doesn't mean they can't be done differently. And the Dreaming Dog label was named in tribute to the procession of white Maremma dogs the Frasers have owned and loved over the years.

While Ron hopes to build the Atticus range, with its jewel-in-the-crown Chardonnay, into one of Margaret River's iconic wine labels, his mid-range Chapman Grove collection has also been scooping up a swag of awards.
