B3 Wines
The Basedow brothers “Richard, Peter and Michael" were born and bred in the Barossa Valley and can trace their lineage back to the genesis of Australia's wine industry. The proud trio are keeping alive their family's 160-year-old legacy with the B3 Winery, producing young, wonderfully vibrant wines that reflect the region and the brothers' cherished link with tradition.
The three brothers are descended from German migrants who arrived in South Australia in 1848 on a ship named "The Pauline". Their distinguished forefathers include grandfather Oscar, the nephew of Johannes Basedow, who established the Basedow winery in the main street of Tanunda in 1896 and Martin Basedow, who established the Roseworthy Agricultural College.
Their father John Oscar Basedow, who passed away in the 1970s, won the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy for his 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon and the brothers have named the hand-crafted John Oscar Shiraz, sourced from 100-year-old Barossa vineyards, in his honour. They're also proud of The Pauline Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz, named for the three-masted barque that first ferried the Basedow name to the region all those years ago.
B3 is a virtual winery enterprise, with fruit sourced from the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley, and the wine is exported to the U.S., Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea and India.
"Our wines are based on our family history and our passion for the district," says Richard. "They're young and vibrant but with strong links to tradition." - Megan Lehmann
