Barossa Semillon is often lost in the shadow cast by the magnificent unwooded versions from the Hunter Valley. The truth is it's a very different sort of wine and one that is well worth exploring.
Regionality is alive and well in Australia and the Loan Winery's Semillon offers another way of exploring the grape's potential. They aim to release their Semillon when it's "ready to go" and the developed flavours and thoughtful use of oak ensure that the 2006 release is drinking well now with plenty of interest on offer. -JP

Semillon is a classic Australian variety, producing crisp dry whites in their youth and beautiful, textured and honeyed creatures in their maturity. Loan Semillon certainly ticks all the boxes. Citrus and lemon flavours dominate the nose and palate but are supported by complex characters of lanolin, beeswax, vanilla and white flowers. - FW

For those of you who love big Shiraz, here’s a little beauty that is hard to find, but worth the chase. It offers a full flavoured Shiraz experience with a sufficient kick at the end that will leave you scrambling for more. It’s no surprise that Chris Ringland consulted on this wine. - DD
