Leabrook Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2009
I love the balance in this wine; a zippy entry with sweet tropical fruits is balanced by the cut and thrust of citrus and some tasty tart edges. It opens with a nice hit of guava and passionfruit before the minerality rolls out impressively along the palate. There's a sprinkle of parsley on a lengthy finish but this possesses none of the sometimes distracting pungency of many New Zealand examples. A real pleasure to drink and widely adaptable to different situations, friends and food. If you're looking for a good example of Australian Sauvignon Blanc, this is a great place to start. -JP

If, like me, you can find New Zealand and Alsace versions of Pinot Gris a little heavy then it's great to see Aussie producers like Leabrook making a version that's all their own. The palate weight is still there but sans oiliness and alcohol heat. Nashi pears and lychee notes are balanced by lemon and grapefruit. The wine is texturally fascinating and there is a wonderfully mineral driven aspect through the finish. Once again, the Adelaide Hills has shown it's a hotspot for this variety and Leabrook have crafted a beautiful and delicious wine here. Great by itself, but I reckon a roast rack of pork would be the perfect match. -JP

All good wine is born in the vineyard. Riesling derives all its flavour from that special moment when the berry is plucked from the vine. Winemakers simply harness the fruit flavours they are given and try to protect them along the way. When it comes to vignerons in the Adelaide Hills, few are better than Colin Best and the proof is in the glass. This tight and crisp Riesling offers so much, from complex varietal characters through to another dimension of fruit flavours that must surely be site specific. Enjoy this wine now or watch it in the cellar for at least 15 years. - SG

Gewurztraminer, once you learn how to spell it, is a brilliant variety that often shows all its cards on the nose. In this case the wine is just as appealing on the palate as it is on the nose and continues to show new nuances the longer you allow it to be open. This is a great food wine that is perfect drinking in the warm summer weather with your favourite salad. - SG

Leabrook Estate Chardonnay 2007
With the "ABC" movement slowly fading into a memory, the quality and diversity of Australian Chardonnay has never been more evident than now. The Adelaide Hills region is producing examples which stand tall amongst Chardonnays produced in higher profile areas such as the Margaret River. The Leabrook Estate Chardonnay 2007 is a highly textural wine that has seen some intelligent winemaker input which is all under pinned by excellent fruit from a cooler climate. A modern style of Australian Chardonnay in all the best ways and one that should improve over the short to mid term. - JP

Leabrook Estate Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2006
This once popular variety seems to waive in and out of favour with most consumers, but there are those of us who have always and will always love a well proportioned Chardonnay with some French oak. Chardonnay just screams for oak, for without it, it is a hollow and one dimensional wine. This wine is luscious, fruity and elegant with just the right balance of oak, fruit and acid. Drink it with a slight chill and eat it with a long lunch. - SG

Leabrook Estate Adelaide Hills Reserve Pinot Noir 2005
There is little doubt that Leabrook can make great Pinot Noir. This wine is everything you could want from a new world Pinot. It has such wonderful powerful fruit intensity and brilliant oak that it is perfect to drink now with some time in a decanter or will happily cellar for at least another 8 years. One other aspect of this wine is the extraordinary mouth coating minerality, it slides across the entire palate and leaves your mouth singing with Pinot goodness. - SG

Leabrook Estate Adelaide Hills Merlot 2006
The Adelaide Hills are quickly becoming the source of some of the best Merlot in the country. Leabrook have harnessed all this variety has to offer and created a masterpiece in this wine. Rich, opulent and overflowing with fruit intensity it is a Merlot for the impatient and a reward for the worthy wine collector. Fruit cake with plums and star anise all appear on the nose, along with trademark Leabrook minerality underlying tannins over the palate. - SG
