Dutschke Ivy Blondina Moscato 2008
So many Moscatos can taste overly sweet and cloying. Thankfully this isn't one of them. The key to that lies with the spritz and citrus characters that balance the tropical fruit flavour. It works a treat with spicy food. -JP
Allan Scott Millstone Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Allan Scott’s youngest daughter, winemaker Sara, has thrown everything at this wine, it is complex beyond anyone’s estimates and maintains the freshness that we all love from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit comes exclusively from the Scott’s Millstone vineyard which was converted to organic after the harvest of 2007. Usual sprays are replaced in this vineyard with alternatives including compost teas and other homeopathic preparations. The resulting wine is a real treat. - SG
Allan Scott Moorlands Sauvignon Blanc 2008
New Zealand is known for fresh and young styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but this wine takes the variety to an entirely new level, with tight integrated oak and texture that will happily see it mature for years to come. Flinty minerality, candied peel and peaches dominate the nose followed by asparagus and lemon across the palate. - SG
Clos Petit by Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc 2008
The internationally recognised wine making family of Henri Bourgeois of Sancerre, France recognised the synergy between Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and the Marlborough, NZ. In 2000 they set up a winery there to concentrate on these wines, giving them a slightly European accent. A gentle, bready entry continues as the tropical fruits assert themselves on the mid-palate. The lees derived softness adds beautiful textural nuances to the typically zippy, minerally Marlborough expression of Sauvignon Blanc. With refreshingly crisp sour and tart edges and a suggestion of cheese, this a wine of some sophistication.-JP
Ballandean Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2008
From Queensland's oldest family owned and operated winery comes a wine which managed to get southerners talking about something created north of the border when it scored a Blue-Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Show. Expect zesty tropical fruit and a dry finish. - JL
Gibbston Valley Central Otago Pinot Gris 2008
Wow – how about a smack in the mouth with some apricot nectar! This wines is luscious, and is so easy to just slide down your palate. The nose is warm and inviting, and the palate just so sexy! It is a wine that exudes a richness in its viscosity, and an opulence in its persistence. It stalks the tastebuds well after it is swallowed, and provides a strong sense of this regional style. -DD
Mount Riley Pinot Gris 2008
Fruity pear, citrus and green apple is supported by perfumed floral and honeysuckle characters on the nose. An off-dry, full bodied wine characteristic of Marlborough Pinot Gris. Enjoy with white meat, veal and cheeses.
Allan Scott Moorlands Riesling 2008
Purity is the essence of good Riesling and the 2008 Moorlands has it in spades. Having said that, this wine has a bit more fruit generosity and palate weight resulting in it being slightly more approachable than many young South Australian versions of the variety. Citrus and passionfruit are in clear evidence on an expressive nose. Fresh lemons and limes burst onto the palate along with some lemon sherbert. With soft but defined acidity, the wine swells with passionfruit on the mid-palate and finish. Under-ripe tropicals balance the exit along with the suggestion of spice. Yellow pear and honey suckle add further interest. It's drinking beautifully now and would work a treat with some pan fried barramundi. -JP
