Purple Palate

Given that this wine has won Silver medals at both the 2009 QLD Wine Show and Decanter World Wine Awards, I was hoping for quite a treat and I wasn’t disappointed. Far too often I think Viognier in this country is just over done – too oily, too fat and blousy but here we have a varietal wine showing restraint. It opens with the classic apricot nectar on the nose which follows on the palate, but the texture is fine and weight balanced with its purity of fruit. A clean finish caps this wine off, inviting yet another mouthful. -DD
