Purple Palate

The Suckfizzle is Stella Bella's only straight Cabernet, and as such it is their flagship red, produced from a single heralded vineyard. In terms of sheer elegance, it is a step above, with a seamless palate of integrated complexities and poise that is doubtless going to evolve slowly in the cellar. Typically herbal, the 2008 is the result of another good vintage, the fruit showing the restraint of quality Bordeaux without being structurally single minded. Its ripe cassis, plumb and fresh cocoa elements are extremely approachable, and the tannins are so silky as to seem almost misnamed. Though after a long finish, they develop a chalky texture that promises to hold the fruit over a good decade. -NT
