For Soul Growers, the Slow Grown Shiraz is the flagship wine in terms fruit profundity. Produced from four distinct vineyards, each of which offers an element of complexity, it is made with every effort to show the fruit's expressiveness, urgency and longevity. The excellent 2009 vintage has been described by the makers as their best release to date. Deep, red/black primary fruit is beheld by rich, raw oak. Its inky, concentrated juice is fragrant and lush, throwing notes of violets, pepper, blackberry, dark coffee and hard liquorice. It finishes with unbroken focus, revealing slim, stern tannins and persistant berry fruit that lingers with warm spice and cocoa. -NT
