Purple Palate

From the great 2009 vintage, the Equilibrium plays its components relatively evenly, allowing for the sour punch of old-vine Grenache and the distinctly fragrant, inky Mouvedre to stand up front with the classically rich, dark Barossa Shiraz. The result is a wine of many layers, approachable and pleasantly generous. The lively Grenache serves to open up the palate with refreshing acids, over which the sweet Shiraz fruit lays its blanket of dense, oak-charred berries. The finish is long, with hints of spiced strawberry, vanilla and liquorice. -NT
