Songlines Shiraz 2005
- Region McLaren Vale, SA
- Type Red
- Size 750ml
- Alcohol 14.5%
A wine created with the assistance of ex-Penfolds Grange custodian John Duval, this French oak (100% new) inspired offering plays in a totally different ball park altogether. This is the flagship offering from Songlines Estates, and as such is given the very best treatment. The dry grown vines are between 40 and 110 years old, and cropped well under 2 tonne per acre with hand pruning and picking taking place.
A toasty mocha nose opens up into a strong, brooding palate. The texture is matched by its palate weight and its rich, ripe dark fruits and rich dark cooking chocolate. Bucket loads of cherries, cranberries and blueberries offer an impressive and lively wine that offers a different experience with every sip. This wine needs time to breathe, but then it blossoms with complexity. A real stayer even after the wine is well and truly down the throat – a nice experience indeed. - DD
