Smallfry Barossa Semillon 2008

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type White
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 11.5%
A top notch vineyard and some sensitive winemaking come together to show us just how good Barossan Semillon can be. 25% New French oak is apparent but not overbearing or heavy. The emphasis is still on the quality fruit. Fresh lemons, a little lemon butter & lanolin and a finish that's just getting toasty and spicy, with excellent thrust. Hints of orange and hay play around the edges. The mouthfeel is rounded with just a touch of sweetness on the back palate. Fantastic stuff, ready to go now with whole baked fish, but it will continue to develop further depth if layed down for a while. -JP

James Halliday, the Wine Companion
 says:

Sophisticated winemaking on a micro scale (175 dozen) runs through from start (early picking) to fermentation (25% new French oak) to the refined, crisp palate and finish. Tour de force.
