Poonawatta Estate The Cuttings Eden Valley Shiraz 2008
- Region Eden Valley, SA
- Type Red
- Size 750ml
- Alcohol 14.8%
Fragrant black and purple fruits are balanced by a rich earthiness. I can tell that rather fine, expensive oak was used to mature this Shiraz. Dark plum in colour – various sensorial roads lead to a wine hunter's bounty of flavours ranging from pepper, mint, violets, bitter cherry and chocolate to mushroom and char-like tar. This is a bipolar wine – it's both masculine, yet feminine. This is a valuable balance often misunderstood by winemakers; a truly delightful style here. With a finish that's very 'frontal', this would match grilled Aussie lamb chops with little effort. Only 2376 bottles made (I enjoyed number 1437). - DJ

says:Dark, tarry and mysterious personality, with black fruits and charry oak playing alongside each other; the palate is chewy and dark, with mineral complexity a central theme and the oak persisting on the finish; undoubted concentration, with serious food to complement a necessity.
