Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1982

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 13.5%
Recent tastings of this vintage confirm that it has changed little over the years – the elegant 1982 continues to offer inviting aromas of black fruits and sweet vanilla oak, followed by intense flavours of mulberry and cedar. From a vintage that Max Schubert once described, in his understated way, as “very good”. - JL

 says:

The 1982 is another superb example of that. One of the jammiest, most precocious Granges when it was released, it has never gone through a closed stage and continues to drink beautifully. A full-bodied, opulent Grange, it reveals an inky/purple colour to the rim as well as a beautiful nose of crushed blueberries, blackberries, smoke, toast, roasted herbs, and road tar. This dense, plush, expansive, seamless, seductive 1982 has not changed much since I had it nearly a decade ago.

 says:

Deep dark red. A fresh, youthful aroma of slightly confiture-like blackberries, raspberries and plums is enhanced with sweet vanilla oak. Fresh, youthful and primary, the palate is intense and juicy, finishing fine-grained, elegant and smoky, with lingering flavours of mulberries and cedar. A finer, more elegant and restrained Grange. Drink 2002-2012. Tasted Dec 17, 2003
