Purple Palate

The Greenock sub-region is a playing field for those winemakers who know how to refine the flamboyant, plush fruit of its coveted soild. Shaun Kalleske, not surprisingly, shapes his fruit into a wine of palate-coating creaminess and drive. Like the legendary Jack's, this is a heartfelt Barossa pleaser. Here, however, the fruit is that bit more complex and muscular, unfolding slowly into a flood raspberry, vanilla-bean, and spiced leather. Its long finish speaks of sheer integrity, shifting from sour to sweet fruits, and closing with tannins of high-quality, melting chocolate. -NT
