Greystone Gewürztraminer 2009

  • Region Waipara Valley, NZ
  • Type White
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 13.5%
There's a whole garden bed of roses wafting from this superb example of New Zealand Gewürztraminer, along with tinned lychees, rockmelon & mixed lifesavers (mostly musk). It's opulent but with a distinct mineral quality that lifts it above the pack, along with some excellent warming spice at the end. The palate is stuffed with flavour but it is distributed evenly, a real key to getting this variety right. And the folks at Greystone have done just that. -JP

 says:

Very pure and refined Gewurztraminer with rose petal and anise flavours. A truly ethereal texture is perhaps the wine's best feature. Subtle flavours linger tantalisingly long after the wine has been swallowed or, sadly, spat in my case. This is a marvellous expression of the variety showing wonderful delicacy and surprising power

 says:

The 2009 Vintage is a medium style, perfumed and mouthfilling, very fresh and vibrant, with rich lychee, pear and spice flavours, a hint of ginger, a slightly oily texture and a lasting finish. A richly varietal wine.
