When Grant Burge first produced the Hillcot Merlot in the 1980s, it was only the third Australian Merlot on the market. Merlot has flourished in the years since, but very few producers can boast to make this varietal from vines of over 20 years age. The Hillcot vineyard produces fruit that captures the earthy, herbal, medium-bodied charm of quality Merlot, with the added complexity and structure unique to mature vineyards. An elegant, varietally-true wine, with crisp, firm acids and rich flavours of plumb, dark cherries, currants and spice. Ed.
