Mouvedre has always been a part of the Barossa, but until recently played almost exclusively the role of third fiddle to Shiraz and Grenache. In recent years it has become admired as a varietal in its own right. The Daly Road Shiraz/Mouverdre blend showcases the virtues of this hard-working grape, its sharp cherry flavours and distinctly musky aromatic profile. Combined with the bright red-fruited Shiraz, this makes for a compelling drop, at once spicy, inky and floral. It has a generous, medium-to-full-bodied weight and firm but forgiving tannins, a texture perfectly suited to investigating one of the world's humblest grapes. -Ed.
