Purple Palate

The Balthasar is typically a Shiraz Viognier blend which uses the best of European aesthetics to make an elegant, complex Shiraz in the Barossa. A complex regime of French oak maturation ensures textural complexity as well as striving for the ever-difficult balance of sweet and savoury flavours. Sourced from inky, fragrant, Eden Valley fruit, the profile is at once rustic and floral, with deep, dark, herbal berry characteristics and a long, fine skein of tannins. The 2008 has foregone the addition of Viognier. It will cellar well. -Ed.
