Donny Goodmac Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

  • Region Yarra Valley, Vic
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 13%
Only the second vintage of this wine, and what an outstanding example of cool climate Cabernet, without the trendy high price tag. With only 192 dozen produced, this is a wine that will make you stand up and take note. An elegant nose, light and lifted, with subtle red berry characters. It opens up a treat, with great Cabernet notes, not green, but not overripe either. The palate is again elegant, gently sliding down the back of the thought and staying there. I could easily sit back and relax with this wine – and a great rack of lamb! -DD

 says:

From a single vineyard in Coldstream comes this classic Yarra Valley Cabernet. The owners, no doubt, will think I’m under-rating it. Redcurrant, blackcurrant, a little mint/aniseed fragrance and fine cedar oak. It’s medium weight with sweet red fruit, fine tannin and fresh acidity. Finishes clean with a lick of tannin on exit. It’s composed, shapely and graceful – nothing overt or showy (so no truism here about dogs taking after their owners) with more than a few tricks tucked up its sleeve for later on. Well worth a punt and a place in the cellar for those with a taste for classic bottle aged Yarra Cab.
