Purple Palate

The internationally recognised wine making family of Henri Bourgeois of Sancerre, France recognised the synergy between Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and the Marlborough, NZ. In 2000 they set up a winery there to concentrate on these wines, giving them a slightly European accent. A gentle, bready entry continues as the tropical fruits assert themselves on the mid-palate. The lees derived softness adds beautiful textural nuances to the typically zippy, minerally Marlborough expression of Sauvignon Blanc. With refreshingly crisp sour and tart edges and a suggestion of cheese, this a wine of some sophistication.-JP
