Cirillo Estate 1850 Old Vine Grenache Rose 2009

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Rose
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 12.8%
Brilliant raspberry with magenta hues. The nose shows rich red cherry, raspberries, rose petals and freshly crushed cranberries. Sweet, no it’s not, although with such a fresh lively nose you would expect the usual Australian rose with lollied sweetness – instead we are shown Marco’s love for powerful acidity and well ripened Grenache. We also see some texture from lees contact and more and more fruit flavours that seem to appear out of nowhere, but of course they are not from nowhere but the excellent fruit quality and careful handling. - SG

 says:

Realiable source tells me this rose is made by bleeding off juice from some of the higher yielding old Grenache vines (1850 plantings). It's a very interesting wine. Cherry, spice, dark brittle toffee and cold beef - a darker colour than many Pinot Noirs and more than a little similarity to taste. It's full flavoured but crisp and dry with faintly tannic rasp echoing through the length of the palate. Offers meaty vinous flavours rather than confectionary ones. Has a touch of warmth that's characterful rather than offputting. Charasmatic and individual.
