Cirillo Estate 1850 Old Vine Grenache 2006
- Region Barossa Valley, SA
- Type Red
- Size 750ml
- Alcohol 15.5%
Old Vine Grenache of an old world slant, betrayed by concentrated cherry and spearmint aromas. Deceptively lean in colour intensity this wine is powerful and concentrated in every way. The nose settles down quickly and offers toffee and orange blossom, while the palate is balanced and long. The oak is old and clean, allowing the character of these 160 year old vines to show itself. A decanter is a must, or else another good 10 years in the cellar. -SG
Gary Walsh
says:...blackcurrants, cherries and fresh raspberries topped with some rubbed mint and bound in new leather...fresh, intense and incredibly vibrant...superb length. Special wine.
Jeremy Oliver
says:Exceptionally floral and surprisingly elegant given its 15.5% alcohol, it's very fine and silky, finishing spicy and very slightly edgy. Rustic and meaty, it's anything but a standard Australian grenache.
