Purple Palate

The Scott Base is Malborough pioneer Allan Scott's foray into Central Otago Pinot Noir. A single vineyard wine, it's an obvious contrast from the house style, with brighter, more herbal/medicinal fruit and stalky elements of soft rhubarb. Details of candy resist manifesting as sweetness, telling of a delicately balanced wine extracted from pitch-perfectly ripened fruit. It has an obvious pulse of acidity and deceptively considerably weight. A wine of typical joys and regional honesty for Otago fans. -NT
