Stella Bella Chardonnay wins again!!
What a year for Stella Bella, an innovative Margaret River winery which seems destined to join the likes of Leeuwin Estate, Moss Wood and Cullen as West Australian wine legends.
Capping off a great run, Stella Bella’s 2008 Chardonnay has triumphed over wines from around the globe, being named “Best International Chardonnay” at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition in London.
The rigorous two-stage judging process took more than six months, comprising blind tasting and detailed technical analysis. Entries were judged by panels drawn from 250 specialists from around the world.
The latest award comes after one of Australia’s leading critics, Campbell Mattinson, named the Stella Bella Cabernet Merlot 2007 as Australia’s best red blend and winemaker Janice McDonald as winemaker of the year. James Halliday has also handed out 96 point ratings to three of its current releases.
Stella Bella has been making wine for just 10 year under three labels – the easy drinking fun of Skuttlebutt, the middle-tier range Stella Bella and the premium (and curiously named) Suckfizzle.
